TRAFFIC BULLETIN FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, 3 & 4 July 2009


Traffic on Friday and Saturday may be heavier and parking more difficult dueto the following events:

FRIDAY

1. ORSEM AT THE LOYOLA SCHOOLS COMPLEX
TIME: 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
PLACE: Loyola Schools Complex/College Covered Courts and Irwin Theatre.

SOME NOTES: . 2,073 Loyola Schools Freshmen plus 600 volunteers are expected to be on campus before 8:00 a.m. . The Grade School and High School morning rush hour (approximately5,000 vehicles) is from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m.

2. LOYOLA SCHOOLS FACULTY DAY
Time: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Place: Loyola Schools Chapel and Leong Hall.
Faculty parking is expected to be full.

SATURDAY

1. GRADE SCHOOL'S PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Grade School
Place: Grade School Complex.
As many as 4,000 parents are expected all morning.

2. ORSEM AT THE LOYOLA SCHOOLS COMPLEX
Time: 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 midnight Place: Loyola Schools Complex, College Covered Courts and Irwin Theatre. 2,073 Loyola Schools Freshmen plus 600 volunteers are expected.

3. INAF (Integrated Non-Academic Formation).
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon 923 college students 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 900 college students Place: Loyola Schools Complex.

4. ATENEO FOOTBALL CENTER
Time: 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Place: Ocampo & Erenchun Football field
Some 200 students and their parents are expected.

Activity: Post-Workshop Tour of MODEL 2009 (Europe-Philippines International Workshop on Modeling, Simulation, and Grid Computing) held in Bohol, Philippines.

Notes:

"The Chocolate Hills is an unusual geological formation in Bohol, Philippines. It is composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills of about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (20 sq mi). They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name.

The Chocolate Hills are a famous tourist attraction of Bohol. It is featured in the provincial flag and seal to symbolize the abundance of natural attraction in the province. It is in the Philippine Tourism Authority's list of tourist destinations in the Philippines; it has been declared the country's 3rd National Geological Monument and proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List."

Notes:

A visit to Bohol is not complete without seeing the famous Philippine Tarsier.

"The Philippine Tarsier (Tarsius syrichta), known locally as the Maumag in Cebuano/Visayan, is an endangered tarsier species endemic to the Philippines. It is found in the southeastern part of the archipelago, particularly in the islands of Bohol, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. Its name is derived from its elongated "tarsus" or ankle bone". ( Source: wikipedia.org )

Note: According to my colleague, Dondi Mapa, tarsiers should be viewed exclusively at the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, Bohol. This is the facility where tarsiers are properly treated and given enough space to roam.

Notes: We visited Hinagdanan Cave as part of the Post-Workshop Tour, MODEL 2009 (Europe-Philippines Workshop on Modelling, Simulation and Grid Computing), May 4 -6, 2009, Bohol, Philippines

"Hinagdanan Cave is a cave on Panglao Island, in Bohol Province, Philippines. It is a naturally lighted cavern with a deep lagoon and many large stalactites and stalagmites.

The cave is lit by sunlight which filters through holes in the ceiling. The underground lake is a popular swimming spot, but it has been known to test for high levels of various pollutants, since it is fed by ground runoff. " (Source: wikipedia.org)

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is the most prestigious programming competition in the world. The contest is a two-tiered competition among teams of students representing institutions of higher education. Teams first compete in regional contests held around the world from September to November each year. The winning team from each regional contest qualifies to advance to the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals.

Hosted by Ateneo de Manila University and organized by the Ateneo Grid and High Performance Computing Group (AGHPC) together with the Computing Society of the Philippines (CSP), the 2009 ACM ICPC Asia-Manila Onsite Contest will be held on October 23 while the Philippine National Onsite Contest will be held on October 22, 2009.

Introduction:

The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science at UBD will host The 2nd International Conference on Mathematical Modelling and Computation and The 5th East Asia SIAM Conference at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) during June 8-11, 2009. The Department of Mathematics has continuing research interests in the mathematical modelling of biological and physical systems, financial mathematics, and areas such as integral and differential operators and numerical methods. The 2nd International Conference on Mathematical Modelling and Computation and The 5th EASIAM Conference shall provide a venue to exchange ideas in these areas and indeed any aspect of mathematical modelling and computation, in promoting both established and newer national and international research relationships. Participants from throughout the region are especially encouraged to attend.

Call For Papers:

The Scientific Programme of the Conference will include 50 minute invited talks and 25 minute contributed talks.

During the ISGC 2009 (International Symposium on Grid Computing) in Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan a sub-group of the EUAsiaGrid partners met to discuss computational chemistry as an application of grid computing.
