An Ecotour of Turtle Island, Taiwan

Figure Caption: Map of Taiwan showing the location of Turtle Island (northeastern portion).

Last April 12, 2008 (Saturday), I was privileged to join an ecotour of Turtle Island in the northeastern part of Taiwan. I was part of a group consisting of my colleagues in the EUAsiaGrid Project and some participants in the International Symposium on Grid Computing (ISGC). The tour was arranged by the Academia Sinica Grid Computing Center (ASGC) headed by its director, Dr. Simon Lin.

I was informed that only 500 visitors were allowed to tour Turtle Island in a given day. Applications to visit the island have to be done several days in advanced.

Turtle Island is an ecological preservation area. Its former inhabitants have already been transferred to the main island of Taiwan.
